Track to the Future
In this four-part career readiness programme, mentors from the rail industry support students through a series of sessions exploring how to implement change using the project management skills at the heart of this sector. The programme also introduces students to an exciting range of careers they may not have considered before.
What's involved?
Are your students concerned about climate change? Do they know that rail is the most sustainable form of transport?
In this programme students get to explore how the rail industry is working towards becoming even more sustainable to benefit both the environment, and local communities.
Students are given a ‘Project Management’ brief, set within the context of the recently launched Sustainable Rail Blueprint. They then work as part of the project management team to complete a series of real-life tasks to plan, design and deliver a new sustainable rail project in their area.
Students will practice and develop core transferable skills linked to the Skills Builder Framework such as teamwork, creativity, problem-solving, and speaking skills. They learn about: project schedules, identifying key stakeholders, developing a communications plan and carrying out a Diversity Impact Assessment as well as preparing their sustainability strategy.
This programme is supported by mentor volunteers from RSSB members who offer an authentic insight into the rail industry.
Throughout the four fully facilitated sessions, students are engaged in meaningful work experience that will contribute towards their 50 hours’ modern work experience guarantee.
