Lightbulb Moments with RSSB and the Rail Industry
Lightbulb Moments with RSSB is a fun and interactive half-day workshop where students learn about the rail industry and develop their employability skills.
What's involved?
In this fun and interactive workshops, students will get the chance to develop their creativity and teamwork skills as they take on the task of desigining a railway station. They will be asked to take into consideration sustainability, inclusivity, accessibility and more, working in teams to reimagine what a mdoern train station might look like.
Through the session, students will develop key skills including:
- Speaking: articulating ideas clearly and confidently
- Problem Solving: navigating complex challenges
- Creativity: thinking outside of the box to design innovative solutions
Students must listen, negotiate and adapt their designs to address real-world concerns, learning the importance of compromise in collaborative projects.
At the end of the workshops, students present their final station concepts, showcasing original features and explaining how they've responded to accessibility needs and stakeholder feedback.
Students will be inspired to think about a career in the rail industry and benefit from volunteer support, getting a direct insight into the diverse range of available pathways. Each workshop is supported by employees from RSSB members, offering students a unique opportunity to connect with industry professionals and develop their communication skills, resilience and teamwork in a supportive environment.
Who's this suitable for?
This programme is suitable for students in Year 7 & 8. Please aim for 50/50 gender split where possible and ensure a representative cohort.
Where is this delivered?
The workshop is delivered by a professional Talent Foundry facilitator and supported by industry volunteers.
