This October, 25 colleagues from Dell Technologies will take on the challenge of trekking to Everest Base Camp in aid of The Talent Foundry, a social mobility charity dedicated to creating life-changing opportunities for young people from underserved communities across the UK.

The 11-day expedition will see participants trek through the Himalayas to reach one of the most iconic landmarks in the world.

Steve Young, Senior Vice President and UK Managing Director at Dell Technologies said:

Trekking to Everest Base Camp has been a lifelong ambition since my childhood reading the National Geographic with my mum and imagining amazing sounding places like Lukla, Namche Bazaar and Tengboche. Doing this epic challenge to support the amazing work that The Talent Foundry does with young people in the UK is very humbling.

I’m looking forward to the taking on the challenge with our Dell colleagues and partners next month.

Dell Technologies and The Talent Foundry have been working together for over a decade to support young people from under-represented backgrounds to access the skills, opportunities, and networks they need to succeed in the modern workforce.

Trek pros

In 2013, Dell Technologies supported The Talent Foundry’s first overseas challenge event, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, which brought together Dell colleagues, the charity’s Trustees, and 12 students from four schools.

With match-funding support, the challenge raised over £50,000 directly benefitting young people across the country.

The partnership has continued to grow, aligning The Talent Foundry’s mission to increase social mobility with Dell Technologies’ ESG goals of leveraging technology to create opportunities for underrepresented communities.

Since 2013, an expanded Future Workforce programme, has reached over 50,000+ students through a variety of funded interventions supported by Dell volunteers and partner technology organisations.

In 2022, a team from Dell Technologies trekked the Inca Trail, raising over £60,000 for the charity. Earlier this year, Dell Technologies also secured a fundraising opportunity through the annual Dell Management Challenge, generating more than £54,000 in donations.

Jenni Anderson, Chief Executive at The Talent Foundry said:

Our partners at Dell Technologies have shown year-on-year their dedication to improving the lives of young people who need extra support to prepare for the world of work. They have volunteered, mentored, fundraised and now they are trekking to Everest.

Funds raised from this incredible challenge will enable us to kick-start our five-year strategy at the same time the team will be arriving at Everest Base Camp. A huge thank you to Dell and their partners for supporting The Talent Foundry.
